Aromatherapy

Massage

Aromatherapy, also known as essential oil therapy, is a holistic healing treatment that uses aromatic essential oils that are known to medicinally improve the health of the body, mind and spirit.

The essential oils are made from essences found in the flowers, leaves, roots, peel, resin, seeds and bark of some plants.

It enhances both physical and emotional health and is thought of as both an art and a science.

The treatment works through absorption of the oils through the skin, or through the sense of smell and breathing them in.

Bamboo Massage

In Bamboo massage, hollow bamboo canes of different lengths and diameters are used as a massage tool, either warmed or at room temperature.

The bamboo cane replaces the therapist’s hands, and it is used to give a deep, firm massage.

The longer sticks are used for gliding strokes on the larger muscles such as the back and thighs, whilst the smaller ones are used for more detailed work such as on the feet.

The muscles are kneaded, which assist in the release of tension and easing of knots. This technique works in a very similar way to hot stone massage.

Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu (meaning ‘finger pressure’) is a form of Japanese bodywork based on concepts in traditional Chinese therapy. It can be done through the clothes or on bare skin and includes techniques such as stretching, holding, and leaning body weight into various points along key channels.

It derives from a Japanese massage modality called anma and it relies on the use of the fingers, thumbs, and palms to apply pressure to various areas of the body’s surface to help heal common ailments and conditions, and correct imbalances in the body.

Each treatment will take around 60 – 90 minutes and is best suited for clients that are seeking a relaxing massage, although this massage will help to release some tension. Upon completion of your course, you will be fully qualified and can charge anywhere between £30 -£60 depending on your location and length of treatment.

It is particularly helpful for treating chronic aches and pains, sports injuries, strains, contracted areas such as stiff neck and upper back, lower back pain, leg muscle tightness and sore shoulders.

The theoretical foundation of Thai massage is based on the concept of invisible energy lines running through the body with reported effects of benefiting flexibility, joint or lower back pain. Clients have also reported an improvement in their anxieties and headaches after this treatment
